The town, which was founded in 1974 and has a population of just over 41,000, occupies the middle Canada del Oro Valley and hosts a large number of residents from around the U.S. who maintain second or winter homes.


In recent years, “The OV” has not only been named to desirable lists such as one of the “100 Best Places to Live and Launch” a business by Fortune Small Business magazine but is also lauded as one of the “Ten Most Playful Towns in America” by Family Circle magazine. Oro Valley has also been named one of “America’s Top-Rated Smaller Cities” by Grey House Publishing specifically due to its excellent schools, medical facilities and golf courses. The town’s economy is fueled by the resort industry, but is also emerging as a regional center for the biotech industry. Oro Valley, located in Pima County, sits about 2,620 feet above sea level and is generally slightly cooler in temperature than Tucson due to its higher elevation.
