Once a Gold Rush mining town under the names Cordova Vineyards and Cordova Village, Rancho Cordova celebrated its induction into cityhood in 2003 and the All-America City Award in 2010. Local attractions include:  The American River where you can float, fish or frolic.  Nearby Lake Natoma offers a variety of family friendly water activities- kayaking, sailing, rowing, fishing, bird watching, people watching.  The American River Bike trail provides 23-miles of paved trail which is officially known as the Jedediah Smith Memorial Trail.  It follows the river along the American River Parkway. Rancho Cordova sits in the center of it all, making for a perfect place to access this scenic trail. The Rancho Cordova Sports and Events Center opens in January 2015, it will provide residents with a 72,000 square foot facility that offers sport fields and the world-class Sacramento State Aquatic Center on Lake Natoma.
