Originally known as Beantown, Waldorf was renamed in 1880 in honor of William Waldorf Astor. During its history, it’s been a tobacco market village and a gambling mecca, when gaming was legal in Charles County for a few decades. Today it is an ample residential community, helped in part of a large planned community of St. Charles to its south. Public transportation takes commuters to and from downtown Washington.
