Tour and Explore
Named for trader John Clarke, Clarksburg grew out from the main road between Georgetown in Washington, D.C. and Frederick. A local inn there served as a meeting place for the Sons of Liberty during the American Revolution, and much of Clarksburg’s rich history is still in evidence in the town’s historic district.
The Montgomery County Parks system also operates two parks in Clarksburg. At Ovid Hazen Wells Recreational Park, visitors can enjoy picnics, playgrounds, ball fields and hiking trails. Kings Local Park features a pond where ducks and other waterfowl gather. There also is a playground, picnic area, and baseball field and tennis courts.
