This common area will contain a large pool, smaller activity pool, pavilion, gazebo, recreation fields, a basketball court, and a large lake with planned observation areas and a center island which will be accessed by a foot bridge. Two pocket parks with recreation equipment will be located in the community outside the main common area. The community will also have three miles of internal walking trails which will include a half mile segment of the Midland Trace Trail which is located just west of the site. When the site east of Westgate is developed, the Midland Trace trail will pick up at Westgate’s eastern border and extend east to Ditch Road where the City of Westfield will install a small portion of the trail to connect the newer sections of the trail to the existing section of the trail. The Midland Trace Trail is a 12-foot-wide path which will connect Westfield to Zionsville to the west and Noblesville to the east and, along the way, provide residents pedestrian access to municipal parks, shopping, dining and a host of other businesses. The Midland Trace Trail also connects to the Monon Greenway, a 22-mile trail that runs north/south from the northern portions of Westfield through Carmel to 10th Street in the heart of downtown Indianapolis. The Monon Greenway will provide pedestrian access to Grand Park, a 400-acre sports campus north of SR 32, which has miles of interconnected paths which is three miles northwest of Westgate.
