Communities in Milwaukie, Oregon

A Rich & Vibrant History

The City of Milwaukie is located alongside the banks of the Willamette River in Clackamas County. Its history dates back to before the arrival of American and European explorers and settlers, a part of the homeland of the Clackamas Indians. In 1847 orchardists from Iowa, the Luellings settled, but it was formally claimed and settled by Lot Whitcomb in 1848. Admiring the growing Midwest metropolis, Whitcomb named the area after the city in Wisconsin. Milwaukie rose to fame through its agricultural pursuits and in 1903 it was formally incorporated.

Home at Last
There are so many reasons why residents are proud to call Milwaukie home. A staple of the city is the Milwaukie Riverfront Park which is an 8.5-acre park adjacent to downtown with a boat launch and open space. Jennings Lodge residents can walk to the Stringfield Family Park with trails, picnic facilities and playgrounds. Cool down at the North Clackamas Aquatics Park with several pools, climbing wall and a great space for events. Stay active at Elk Rock Island with miles of hiking and then go for a swim at Dahl Beach. There are great employers nearby such as Knight Transportation, retail centers for shopping, hospitals, golfing and much more. Plus, residents are near skiing and snowboarding opportunities at Mt, Hood, as well as water activities at both the Willamette and Columbia Rivers.
