The City of Minnetrista has a great history known for the Ball family who moved to the area along with their glass jar company back in 1887. The family purchased a vast majority of the land along the White River bank. They combined the Sioux word "mna" meaning "water" and the English word "Tryst" to name the property as "a gathering place by the water."
Their great impact on the area has continued to influence the community and will continue to be a gathering place. From Native Americans to settlers to families, past and present, this is a place of close-knit community – for socializing, teaching, learning, entertainment, enjoying the great outdoors and all types of recreation. Minnetrista is a beautiful place where all people are welcome to visit and experience the rich heritage of the region and enjoy the many activities available here.
